These heater adapters are a necessary evil when working on 90's Chevrolet heater hoses. If your lucky, your old one came out without breaking off in the intake or water pump. If it breaks off in the water pump, you either get to buy a new pump and adapter, or get the special removal tool and hope for the best. If it breaks off in your intake, you are at the mercy of the removal tool. They sell adapters to get rid of this item and they use a regular hose barb, so you just convert to rubber hoses and get rid of the metal piece. However on my rear heat equipped Suburban, I dont feel like messing up the factory lines, so I am using one of these with a new water pump. If you do convert away from one of these, make sure your adapter has the same restriction orifice as this piece, they regulate flow through the heater cores.Take a minute to examine one of these and once you realize how the clips come out, they are simple to extract, and new ones really do go together with a snap.
