  • BD's design deflects the oil back onto the ring gear and into the pinion gear for cooler longer life. Other differential covers are large and bulky resulting in lubricating oil being flung off the ring gear causing addition heat and/or wear.

  • Make the Most of Your Power Stroke's exhaust backpressure valve! BD's BrakeLoc connects to the EBPV control wire, turning the factory valve into an electronically-controlled exhaust brake. Includes the BD AutoLoc to maintain lock-up when the exhaust brake is activated ensuring that 100% of the retarding force is being transferred in 3rd and 4th gears. Note that, because the EBPV is activated hydraulically, there is typically a 2-3 second delay between the time the valve is actuated and engine retarding occurs. While the BrakeLoc is an economical alternative to an exhaust brake, it is NOT intended as a substitute. For quicker, more effective braking, we recommend a BD exhaust brake system, which utilizes our Variable Orifice Technology, and won't stick like the stock EPB valve can.

  • Turbochargers operate at high temperatures. The Cool Down Timer is designed to keep the engine running when the ignition is turned off to prevent turbocharger bearing failure that could occur when the engine is shut down, stopping the cool lubricating oil flowing to the turbocharger while it is still hot. If the oil flow is shut off too early, the remaining oil in the bearing housing will overheat causing coking of the bearings which causes both premature bearing wear and reduced oiling of the bearings. Allowing the engine to idle to a minimum operating speed gives the turbocharger time to cool down. The CDT is adjustable for up to 5 minutes of idle time, or optionally works with any K-Type EGT probe for temperature-based shutdown.

  • Exhaust brake usage can cause high temperatures in the automatic transmission due to torque converter slippage if a lockup device is not used. Only 10% to 80% of the retarding force is transferred through the fluid coupling of most torque converters. The BD TorqLoc commands the lock-up clutch of the torque converter to stay engaged when the BD Exhaust Brake is activated. This allows up to 100% of the retarding force to be transferred while in 3rd and 4th gear. Also, transmission oil temperatures will remain low because of little or no slippage occurring in the converter in these gears.
